Darker than ocher and sienna pigments,  umbers are natural brown earth pigments containing iron oxide. Raw Umber pigments range in colour, which is dependent on the amount of iron oxide and manganese in the clay from which it is mined. Raw Umber is one of the primary pigments used by humans, however it wasn't widely used in Europe before the end of the 15th century.  Raw Umber Green Shade is a very dull, greenish earth brown.
